Counselling Website

The Problem

The previous Peter Symonds College Counselling Intranet website allowed students to book counselling appointments and allowed staff to administer these appointments but it was suffering from several problems:

Designed for desktop only and not displaying adequately on tablet and mobile devices, difficult for students and staff to use (giving users a poor user experience (UX))

Built using out of date PHP code

Did not have the latest college branding

The Solution

The website that I built solved all of these problems. It included a full rewrite of the appointment booking system from the group up.

The new site included the following features:

Fully responsive and displaying properly across desktop, tablet and mobile devices

Built using the latest version of Symfony (a modern PHP framework) for seamless integration with other Peter Symonds College websites

Custom content management system (CMS) so that staff can administer the site themselves

Doctrine object related database management

Bootstrap, Sass and jQuery

The latest college branding

Resources pages are also provided for students with links to relevant helpful information.

Oxbridge Website

The Problem

Peter Symonds College prides itself on achieving a consistently high number of students being offered places at Oxford and Cambridge Universities.

In order to support this achievement, the college employs an Oxbridge tutor who guides students through their application process via preparation courses, one to one sessions and by providing access to interview feedback from past students. The college was keen to move the administration for this online, to minimise staffing costs and improve access for students.

The Solution

The website that I built allowed students to:

Book places on preparation courses

Search through interview feedback left by previous college applicants

Leave their own interview feedback

Book one to one sessions with the Oxbridge tutor

It allowed the Oxbridge tutor, via a content management system to:

Administer preparation courses

Manage one to one session bookings

Monitor students progress with links to each students student record

The new website was also responsive and displayed correctly across all devices, giving users a positive user experience and had the latest college branding. It was built using Bootstrap, Symfony and Doctrine to integrate with the other college websites.
